    • COVID-19 Vaccine Encouragement / Aliento de la Vacuna

      • The Catholic Church, through our local Archdiocese of Los Angeles, strongly encourages Catholics to receive a COVID-19 vaccine for ourselves, our loved ones and the common good.

On December 21, 2020, the Vatican’s Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF), the teaching authority of the Church, stated that “it is morally acceptable to receive COVID-19 vaccines that have used cell lines from aborted fetuses in their research and production process.”  It added: “All vaccinations recognized as clinically safe and effective can be used in good conscience with the certain knowledge that the use of such vaccines does not constitute formal cooperation with the abortion from which the cells used in production of the vaccines derive” … “the morality of vaccination depends not only on the duty to protect one's own health, but also on the duty to pursue the common good.  In the absence of other means to stop or even prevent the epidemic, the common good may recommend vaccination, especially to protect the weakest and most exposed.”

COVID vaccinations for children 12 and up are now available in Los Angeles.  Vaccinations are available without an appointment.  Families can find a location in L.A. on the city’s website – lacity.org or at one of the county locations at VaccinateLACounty.com; the Spanish-language site is VacunateLosAngeles.com.  People without internet access can call (833) 540-0473.  Some of the vaccination sites include community health centers, St. John’s Health Center, Kaiser Permanente, Ralphs Pharmacies, CVS, Walgreens and more.  All vaccines are free to everyone living in the U.S., regardless of immigration or health insurance status.
